The Herringbone bench has a seat laid up from teak staves running in a herringbone pattern and a black iron frame whose legs splay outwards. It has no backrest and no armrests, and the frame folds. Dimensions and how many people fit The seat is 110 cm long and 40 cm deep, and its top edge sits 45 cm above the floor. That height falls in the 44–47 cm band at which you sit at a 75 cm standard tabletop with your feet flat on the floor — so the bench can be pushed under a dining table in place of two chairs. At the 60 cm of width usually counted per adult, 110 cm gives room for two people side by side and no margin for a third. The 40 cm depth is a measurement without a backrest: there is nothing to lean against, so this is a seat for the table or for a short while. Placed against a wall the bench takes up 40 cm; with 80 cm of free passage beside it you need a strip 120 cm wide. The herringbone top and the frame The teak staves are laid alternately at an angle, so each one carries a different grain pattern and a slightly different shade — from greyish to honey. The surface feels raw, with the joints between the staves visible, rather than sanded smooth. The frame is iron painted black and carries the seat on four splayed legs. The bench weighs 17.4 kg. One person can lift that, but at 110 cm long it is easier to carry up stairs with two. The manufacturer recommends dusting the top with a dry soft cloth, or wiping it damp and drying it thoroughly, and rubbing the wood with a thin coat of oil from time to time to keep its warm tone. Folding, and where it may stand The manufacturer states that the bench folds for storage, so after guests have gone it can be put away flat instead of needing a permanent place in the room. The bench is intended for indoor use only. The manufacturer warns that outdoor use — including under cover — risks damage from moisture and weather and is not covered by the warranty, and that photographs showing it outdoors are styling shots.
