The Maytoni Bangkok MOD185PL-L6B3K3 is a pendant light built from three clear glass forms threaded onto a black metal stem: an 8 cm sphere, a 13 cm bowl and a 40 cm dome. The ceiling canopy is a black cylinder 6 cm across and 17.5 cm tall. How low to hang it The drop adjusts from 10 to 300 cm, giving an overall height of 68 to 358 cm. Over a table the bottom edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the top; with a standard 75 cm table that works out at roughly 145–155 cm measured from the ceiling, comfortably inside the adjustment range. The dome is 40 cm across, which keeps its proportions over a table 80–90 cm wide. The whole fitting weighs 2.2 kg. A mounting bar screws to the ceiling and the pendant hangs from it; the fitting is electrical class 1, so an earth conductor has to be present in the ceiling box. The supply is 220–240 V, 50 Hz. The light it gives The source is a built-in 12 W LED module, permanently fitted — there is no lampholder for a replaceable bulb. At 3000 K the colour is a warm white close to a traditional incandescent bulb, and the 120° spread pushes it out broadly beneath the fitting. The shades are clear glass rather than opal: the light is not diffused and the lit elements show through. Over a dining table that puts sharp highlights in the glass, but hung low it can be bright in the eyeline of anyone seated — a reason not to shorten the drop below eye level. The fitting is not dimmable, and Ra 80 colour rendering is adequate for a dining room or living room. Build and series Body and stem are metal finished in black; the shades are glass. Maytoni rates the module at 50,000 hours and gives a 5-year warranty.
