A 55 cm ring that lights downward only RIO 55 is a light aluminium ring hung on three transparent cables beneath a beige canopy 24 cm across. The whole fitting weighs just 1.9 kg, and its only form is the circle — no arms, no shades, no ornament. The manufacturer states the distribution plainly: this luminaire lights downward. That matters when planning: RIO does not brighten the ceiling or create a glow above itself; it puts the entire output onto the worktop, table or floor. If you want a fitting that makes the ceiling read as higher, this construction will not do it. If you want even, wide light over one particular place, a ring emitter with a circumference of over 170 cm spreads it far more gently than a single point ever can. CRI 98 — the reason to choose it The most unusual figure on this fitting's data sheet is its colour rendering index of Ra 98. The market standard for domestic luminaires is Ra 80, a good value is Ra 90; 98 belongs to museum and studio lighting. In practice that means fabrics, timber, food and skin tones keep their saturation under this light instead of going grey — which is why RIO earns its place over a dining table, in a kitchen, in a dressing room, and anywhere colour is judged. 4000 K is neutral white: cooler than the 3000 K usual in homes, but without the bluish cast of fluorescent tubes. 2842 lm from 24 W works out at roughly 118 lm/W — a very good result for a fitting with CRI this high, because those two figures normally pull against each other. Construction and installation The body is aluminium finished in beige; the canopy matches, and the cables are transparent, so from a few metres away the ring appears to float unsupported. Maximum suspension height is 150 cm — the installer trims the cables to the height required. The luminaire works in protection class I, so the PE earth conductor must be connected, and carries IP20, restricting it to dry interiors. The light source is permanently built in and is not user-replaceable. The declared energy efficiency class is F and the EU EPREL database registration number is 1329854. The fitting is manufactured in Poland and comes with a five-year warranty — longer than the usual two. Control In its standard form the fitting is switched on and off from an ordinary wall switch. The manufacturer will, however, supply this model with a control system: by remote, by app, in the DALI standard, or with PUSH DIM. That decision is made at the time of ordering — it is not a module that can be added later, so if you plan to dim it or integrate it into a building control system, say so up front.
