CLOE GPL270C is a small, flat surface-mounted ceiling light: an aluminium ring in matt black, 17.5 cm across and only 5.2 cm deep, closed with a white methacrylate diffuser. The built-in LED module delivers 1200 lm from 16 W at 3000 K. Why it works better than its size suggests At 17.5 cm across it is easy to write this off as a decorative trinket. It is not. 1200 lm is what a good LED bulb replacing an old 75–100 W lamp delivers, and the 110° beam spreads it very wide: from a 2.5 m ceiling the pool of light is about 7 m across on the floor. In a hallway, dressing room, pantry, utility room or small kitchen, one of these genuinely lights the whole space. 75 lm/W efficacy and a colour rendering index above 80 are a solid working level — not a record, but entirely sufficient anywhere colours are not being judged professionally. Flatness here is a function, not a style The 5.2 cm depth has concrete consequences: Low ceilings. In a cellar, under a slope, or in a 2.2 m corridor it stays out of the way. Above a wardrobe door or inside a dressing room — it does not clash with the leaf or the top shelf. The diffuser is flat and flush with the ring, so it does not collect dust in a rebate and wipes clean in one pass. Weight 0.57 kg — fixing needs nothing special, a standard plug chosen for the ceiling material is enough. Two things to check before you buy Protection class I: an earth conductor is required. Many small ceiling lights are class II and manage without an earth — this one does not. In older buildings with two-core wiring, that has to be settled at the ceiling box before it goes in the basket. IP20 — dry interiors only. Although the size and form would suit a spot above a mirror, this fitting is not intended for a bathroom and not over a shower. The light source is built in The LED module and driver are integrated into the fitting — there is no socket, no bulb to change and no need to find room for a transformer. The price of that convenience: once the diodes are spent, at a declared 30,000 hours, the whole fitting is replaced. At a realistic three hours a day that is about 27 years, so in practice the limit is theoretical. The fitting is not dimmable and has a fixed 3000 K colour (warm white). The manufacturer also offers the same fitting in a 4000 K version if you need neutral white — the choice is made at purchase.
