Jude is a semi-flush ceiling light from the Alora Mood brand, distributed by Elstead Lighting: a matte black steel canopy, a short stem carrying an E27 lampholder and a half-dome shade of clear glass, 30 cm across. The whole fitting is 25.4 cm tall and weighs 1.18 kg. Where it fits The shade sits just below the ceiling on a short, rigid stem, so it takes only 25.4 cm off your room height — compare that with the height of a wardrobe door or the clearance you need to walk under the light. The ceiling canopy is 10.2 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm deep, enough to cover a standard junction box but not a larger mark left by a previous fitting. The manufacturer lists Jude for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways and walk-in wardrobes — places where a pendant on a long drop would take up too much headroom. What light it gives and what you need to buy The fitting has one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays on show — a decorative bulb, for example one with a visible filament, makes sense here. Choose the colour temperature for the room: 2700 K gives warm, yellowish light for a bedroom, 4000 K a neutral white for a wardrobe. The shade is open at the bottom, so most of the light falls downwards and the rest passes sideways through the glass. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs: brightness can be adjusted when the circuit has a dimmer and the bulb is marked as dimmable. Construction and installation The frame is steel painted matte black and the shade is glass. It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to an earth conductor — straightforward on a three-core installation. It is intended for indoor use on 220–240 V mains. A plain form with no ornament and the contrast of black metal against clear glass place Jude in a modern style.
