HOLAR 1 is a pendant built from two parts and nothing else: a thin steel hoop spanning 81 cm and a single slim cylindrical spot suspended at its centre. The hoop neither emits light nor shields the source. Its job is to draw a clean geometric line in the air that gives structure to the space above a table or in a hallway. A drawn line instead of a shade The whole effect rests on a contrast of scale: a large, almost immaterial ring and a small, visually dense cylinder just below its centre. The assembly hangs on thin, nearly invisible cables, so from the side the ring appears to float unsupported. Every part, cable and ceiling rose included, is black, so the fitting reads as a single drawing against the ceiling rather than as a set of components. One GU10 light point The HOLAR 1 version carries a single GU10 spot rated at a maximum of 10 W. The cylinder aims the beam straight down, so this is accent lighting meant to pick out one specific place: a tabletop, a kitchen island, a reception desk. Lighting a whole room will need a second source. No bulb is supplied, which means you choose the colour of the light yourself and a replacement years from now does not mean replacing the fitting. The lamp runs on a standard 230 V, 50 Hz supply. Adjustable drop The suspension is adjustable and the maximum overall height is 156 cm. You can therefore hang the hoop close under the ceiling, where it works as a discreet architectural detail, or drop it low over a worktop, where the ring closes off the table zone and concentrates the light more tightly. The ceiling rose measures 15/5/2 cm, narrow and flat enough not to compete with the fitting itself. A collection made for grouping HOLAR also comes in a two-source version, and individual pieces from the collection look good hung side by side. Several hoops set at different drops create a pattern of overlapping ellipses above a long table, which reads better than repeating the same lamp in a straight row. It is an approach used readily in dining rooms, restaurants and hotel spaces. Build The fitting is steel throughout, made in Poland, and the manufacturer covers it with a five-year warranty. An IP20 rating places it in dry interiors. The lamp is protection class I, which means the installation needs an earth conductor and should be carried out by a qualified person. At 3.25 kg it calls for a secure ceiling fixing.
