ELLE 1143 is a pendant built from black metal tube: a horizontal beam 50 cm long hung below the ceiling, with two arms dropping from it into open cylindrical shades – also metal, also black. The whole construction stays within 12 cm of width, so seen from the side the fitting is almost a line. A metal shade, not glass This is the property that most determines how ELLE lights. A metal shade passes no light sideways – it directs the whole flux vertically downwards, in a tight cone. Over a table or a worktop that gives two clearly defined pools of light and a darker surround; it is task light and mood light at once, but it will not light a room. Where general lighting is needed, ELLE has to be paired with a second source. Two E27 sockets The fitting takes two E27 lamps of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included, and with open shades their lower part stays visible – worth taking into account when choosing: a clear envelope with a filament will be seen and becomes part of the look, a frosted one disappears. The 60 W is a safety ceiling; with today's LEDs 2 × 8–10 W is ample. Height and installation Overall height is 120 cm, which against a 50 cm span gives a markedly vertical proportion – the fitting is meant for a narrow table, a kitchen island or a counter, where a long drop is acceptable. The suspension is shortened at installation. An IP20 rating restricts it to dry interiors; supply 230 V. Gross weight 1.35 kg.
