Coliforms 100 is a rapid E. coli /Coliform test for drinking water. It is a selective enrichment broth used for the simultaneous presence / absence detection of total coliforms and E. coli within the bacteriological water examination. Coliforms 100 is a chromogenic medium that provides easy-to-read, definitive positive results. It has a high nutritional quality of the peptones along with incorporated phosphate buffer that guarantees rapid growth of coliforms, while lauryl sulfate largely inhibits the accompanying flora (especially the Gram-positive). The chromogenic substrates X-GAL (cleaved by coliforms) and the fluorogenic substrate MUG (highly specific for E. coli ) allow for the simultaneous detection of total coliforms and E. coli . The presence of total coliforms is indicated by a blue-green color of the broth and E. coli by a blue fluorescence under UV-light.
