Large Plane is a wooden pendant light for a child's room shaped as a biplane: a white fuselage, pink wings, propeller and undercarriage, the whole thing hung on three cords beneath a round ceiling rose. The wingspan is 45 cm, the depth 42 cm and the total drop 75 cm. The propeller and undercarriage move This is the detail that separates the lamp from decoration meant only to be looked at. The propeller turns and the undercarriage can be moved — a child can set the plane going rather than just look at it. On a light hanging in a child's room that is the difference between a piece of furniture and a toy that happens to glow. Solid pine and water-based paint The structure is made entirely from solid pine — not board and not plywood — so the body is rigid and survives years of use without coming apart. The surface is finished in certified water-based paints: white on the fuselage, a soft pink on the wings and the remaining parts. The manufacturer states that every paint and oil used is safe for children and for the environment — which matters on an object that hangs in a child's room for years. The bulb is on show — and that changes which one to buy The lamp sits in an E27 holder above the fuselage, between the wings, completely exposed. There is no shade, so the bulb envelope is part of how the lamp looks. The manufacturer explicitly recommends a GLOBE bulb — spherical, in an opal finish — in a warm or neutral colour: the sphere reads as part of the aircraft, and opal glass softens light that would otherwise fall straight into the eyes of a child lying down. An ordinary pear-shaped envelope or a clear filament bulb spoils both the proportion and the visual comfort. The maximum lamp power is 60 W; LED lamps are allowed and, on a wooden structure, the more sensible choice for their lower running temperature.
