The Steinel IS D360 is a recessed ceiling motion sensor measuring 83 mm across and 82 mm deep — the same footprint as an ordinary downlight. The housing is white plastic in RAL 9010, and only the multi-lens in the centre gives the sensor away. Settings are made with potentiometers on the body; there is no remote control. Where it is installed The sensor drops into a standard spotlight frame. The cut-out is Ø 73 mm and the installation depth 53 mm — two figures to check against the frame and the void above a suspended ceiling before you start drilling. The manufacturer allows a mounting height of 2.5 to 4 m and names 2.5 m as the optimum. IP20 protection and an operating range of −20 to +50 °C confine it to indoor use; the unit itself weighs 138 g, so it puts almost no load on a plasterboard panel. The area it covers The passive infrared sensor with mixed-light measurement covers a full 360° and divides it into 720 switching zones. Movement across its field is picked up within a 16 m circle, or 201 m², while movement straight towards it is picked up within an 8 m circle, or 50 m². That difference decides where it goes in a corridor: someone walking past is detected sooner than someone walking directly underneath. The detection field has creep-under protection and can be masked segment by segment, so part of a room can be left out of the coverage without taping over the lens. What it switches and how it is set On a 230–240 V / 50 Hz supply the switching output takes up to 1000 W of incandescent load, 750 W of fluorescent lamps on electronic ballast and up to 64 W of LED sources. The contact is volt-free across 50–250 V, so the sensor can also switch a circuit fed independently of it. The twilight threshold is set between 2 and 2000 lx and the run-on time between 5 seconds and 20 minutes.
