Rome ROME-AN is a mother-and-child floor lamp — a single double stem carrying two independent light sources: an upper bowl washing the ceiling, and an adjustable arm with its own reading shade. The metalwork is finished in antique brass and the upper shade is opal glass. Two lights, two knobs — this is not a plain uplighter The key feature: each source has its own rotary dimmer, and both knobs sit on the stem at hand height. No wall dimmer and no specially controllable lamp are needed — the control is built into the fitting. In practice that gives four scenarios instead of one: indirect light off the ceiling alone, the focused reading light alone, both together, or any mix of their brightness. A reading arm that holds its aim The reading arm is flexible and carries a directional pin, so once set the aim does not sag under the weight of the shade. The shade is small and points down — light falls on the book rather than across the room, which makes the lamp suit an armchair beside someone watching television. The upper bowl and indirect light The upper source shines into the ceiling through a glass opal bowl. The light returns to the room reflected, so it is soft and shadow-free — good as general light in a living room with a pale ceiling. Against a dark ceiling the effect is markedly weaker, which is worth bearing in mind. Lamps — bought separately Bulbs are not included.
