The PRO 3Y LED strip is a flexible 10 mm band carrying SMD 5050 diodes at 60 per metre. It lights in RGB, runs on 24 V direct current and draws 14.4 W for every metre of length. RGB means colour, not white Each 5050 diode holds three chips — red, green and blue — mixed by a controller. The strip therefore gives no usable white light, only colour: for backlighting a niche, a plinth, a suspended ceiling or the back panel of a shelving unit. Running it takes a 24 V DC power supply sized to the length of the run and an RGB controller. At 14.4 W/m a five-metre run draws 72 W, so the supply is chosen with headroom — usually around 20 % above the calculated figure. The 3Y series: what sets it apart from an ordinary strip The PCB is made from 3 oz copper, heavier than in standard strips. Thicker copper carries heat away better and drops less voltage along its length, which on longer runs means more even brightness between the start and the end of the strip. The strip is finished with a professional Blue Tape mounting layer, ready to press straight into a cleaned LED profile. Declared life is 26,200 hours, and the maker gives the IP20 version of the 3Y series a five-year warranty. Where to run it An IP20 rating restricts the strip to dry interiors — it is not for a bathroom water zone or for outdoors. The maker intends it for under kitchen cabinets, in the kitchen and in a wardrobe. It is sold by the metre; the maker winds it on 25-metre reels. When mounting it in an aluminium profile, remember the profile acts as a heatsink — at 14.4 W/m that genuinely matters for how long the diodes last.Show more
