The STD strip is LED Labs' basic 24 V LED tape: 60 2835 SMD diodes per metre, 4.8 W/m, neutral 4000 K, an 8 mm wide strip, on a 5 m reel. Why 24 V rather than 12 V At the same power a 24-volt strip draws half the current of a 12-volt one. That has two practical consequences: voltage drop along the strip is smaller, so the far end of a long run does not glow visibly dimmer than the start, and the supply cable can be thinner. Across a kitchen run or a long ceiling cove that is the difference between one power supply and having to feed from both ends. What 4.8 W per metre gives you This is a low-output tape — meant for decorative and supplementary light, not for lighting a room. It works under a kitchen worktop, along a skirting, in a curtain pelmet, on wardrobe shelves or around a furniture plinth. If the tape is to be the only light source in a room, a 9–14 W/m version is the right choice. 4000 K and CRI 80 Neutral white 4000 K is cooler than typical incandescent light and warmer than daylight — it suits a worktop and utility spaces where legibility matters more than mood. CRI 80 is the standard grade: colours read correctly, though reds and skin tones would look truer at CRI 90+. The manufacturer also builds this model in 3000 K and 6500 K — decide before buying, since the colour cannot be changed afterwards. What you must buy separately The tape does not include a power supply. A constant-voltage 24 V DC driver with headroom is required — for a full 5 m reel (24 W) a sensible minimum is 30 W. Connecting it to 230 V without a driver destroys the tape instantly. Dimming needs a driver-side or DC-rated dimmer, not an ordinary mains dimmer. Installation and limits IP20 means no protection against moisture at all — the tape is for dry interiors only, not for the splash zone of a bathroom and not outdoors. Cut it only at the marked cut points. The manufacturer recommends running it in an aluminium profile: the profile carries heat away, which genuinely extends diode life, protects the strip mechanically and — with an opal cover — removes the visible dotting.
