The ARUBA 8533 is a table lamp built around a single element: a 25 cm glass globe with a marbled decoration. White gives way to brown and graphite streaks that wrap round the sphere in irregular bands, like the veining in stone. It is a pattern fused into the glass, not stone - marble effect rather than marble. The globe sits on a low, flat brushed-brass base 15 cm across, standing on three small feet; the whole thing is 26 cm tall. What it looks like lit Switched off, the lamp reads cool and graphite-white, like a piece of stone. Switched on, the lamp inside backlights the glass and the whole pattern warms to amber and honey - the darker streaks stay opaque while the pale areas glow hardest. Two different objects in one, which is worth bearing in mind when choosing where to put it: the lamp works as an ornament even when it is off. Lamp and wattage The holder is an ordinary E27 on 230 V and the lamp ships without a bulb. Argon's data card gives a maximum of 15 W for an LED source - not a brightness limit, since a 15 W LED delivers around 1500 lm, as much as a 100 W incandescent once did. The closed shade is not ventilated, so halogen and incandescent bulbs do not belong in it. A warm 2700 K lamp suits this kind of shade best and matches the amber cast of the decoration; a clear filament bulb will show through the paler areas of the glass. Switching and connection The lamp has a black cotton-braided cord with a black switch on it, so you turn it on by hand without reaching for the socket or for the globe itself. The IP20 rating restricts it to dry interiors - a living room, bedroom or study. Net weight is 2.2 kg, and the low brass base steadies the globe well on a smooth surface. Worth noting: the multi-light versions take E14 caps and only the 8533 and 6299 take E27 - which matters if you want the same colour of light throughout a room.
