IS 180 DIGI HD is a Steinel outdoor passive-infrared motion detector for surface wall mounting. In the manufacturer's current catalogue the same article (066109) appears as MD IR D180 COM1 — the same unit, renamed with the series. Reach and field of view The detector covers 180° with a 90° aperture. Reach depends on the direction of movement: 9 m for tangential motion (across the field, 127 m²) and only 6 m radially (straight at the sensor, 57 m²). That asymmetry is inherent to every PIR detector and it decides the mounting position — set the sensor side-on to the expected path, not facing it. Steinel gives a mounting height of 1.80–2.50 m, optimally 2 m; higher extends the reach but reduces sensitivity close to the wall. Bluetooth Mesh instead of trimmer pots The COM1 version has no potentiometers behind the cover — settings are made from a smartphone or tablet through the app, and the detectors link to each other over Bluetooth Mesh. That enables the neighbouring-group function: motion seen by one detector can switch the luminaires assigned to adjacent ones. No handheld remote is provided. Also available are capture-zone definition, masking of individual segments, night mode, test mode and adjustable fade time on switch-on and switch-off. Switching capacity — LED is not the same as 2000 W The headline 2000 W applies to a resistive load, meaning filament lamps. With LEDs the limits are far lower and they are the ones that matter in practice: 500 W for lamps above 8 W, 250 W for 2–8 W, and only 100 W below 2 W. The reason is the inrush current of LED drivers, not their steady power. Fluorescent with electronic ballast: 500 W. Capacitive load up to 176 µF. The detector's own consumption is 0.6 W. Outdoor operation and settings The plastic housing in RAL 9003 white is rated IP54 and works from −20 to +40 °C. The twilight threshold adjusts across 2–1000 lx and the on-time from 5 seconds to 60 minutes. The detector includes a sneak-by guard — it picks up movement directly beneath the housing, in the dead zone typical of a high-mounted PIR. Dimensions are 42 × 116 × 116 mm at 0.25 kg.
