Q-MALINA is a pendant built from two curved, undulating LED bars spanning 108 cm, in a steel finish. The suspension reaches 120 cm and the whole body is only 11 cm deep. It is not primarily a decorative object, though: Q-MALINA belongs to Paul Neuhaus's Q® Smart Home system, and the control side matters as much as the shape. The remote is included — and it is what dims the lamp A Q® infrared remote is supplied with the fitting. It adjusts two things at once: brightness and colour temperature across 2700–5000 K, from warm evening white to cool daylight. A memory function stores the last setting, so the lamp returns to it when power comes back. One remote handles up to 20 Q® fittings assigned to a maximum of 3 groups. One caveat is worth knowing before installation: the lamp does not work with a wall dimmer. Dimming happens electronically inside the fitting, on the remote's command. An ordinary phase-cut dimmer in the back box will not only fail to work, it can damage the driver. ZigBee: what works straight away and what needs a gateway The fitting is ZigBee compatible, which translates into a concrete device list: No extra hardware — speakers with a built-in ZigBee hub: Echo (4th gen), Echo Studio and Echo Show 10 (3rd gen). An additional gateway required — Echo Dot, Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, Google Home and Google Home mini. A third-party ZigBee gateway (homee, for example) gives app control from a phone, tablet or computer. Combined with Alexa or Google Assistant, voice control works. Two lumen figures — and the one that matters is the lower one The manufacturer publishes two different flux values for this fitting, and the difference is worth understanding, because it decides how much light actually reaches the room: 4600 lm — the flux of the LED modules themselves, measured at the diode boards. 2200 lm — the effective flux, meaning what actually leaves the fitting after passing through the diffusers. Plan your lighting around 2200 lm. That is roughly two to three traditional 100 W bulbs — enough as the main light over a table or in a moderately sized living room, but not what the figure 4600 would suggest. Total power draw is 40 W, of which the LED modules themselves take 35 W. The light source is permanently built in The fitting arrives with two permanently installed LED modules. There are no sockets and no bulbs to replace — typical of fittings with continuous colour adjustment, because the control electronics and the diodes have to be matched to each other. The practical consequence: you never buy a bulb, but you also cannot replace one yourself years from now. Dimensions and mounting A 108 cm span makes Q-MALINA a lamp for a long table, a kitchen island or a wide seating area — over a small round table it will be too wide. Suspension height is 120 cm, measured from ceiling to the bottom of the fitting at full extension.
