Las Plumas PALOMA N°1 pendant light, velvet shade with fringing, blue and gold, E27
PALOMA N°1 is a hand-sewn pendant from the Polish brand Las Plumas — a cylindrical velvet shade bound in navy cord and finished with long turquoise fringing. The outer fabric carries a marbled pattern in blue, navy and gold, while the inside of the shade is lined with a gold glitter coating over a black lacquered frame. The gold lining changes the colour of the light This is not only decoration. The glittering gold lining throws the lamp's light back noticeably warmer, towards amber, and scatters fine reflections across the ceiling that a plain white shade will not give. In practice that means even a neutral 4000 K lamp comes out of this fitting as warm light — worth remembering when choosing a bulb, and a reason not to buy cool white for it. The fringe, and what it does to the shadow The fringing is 14 cm long and hangs below the bottom edge of the shade. Beyond its looks it does an optical job: it breaks the hard edge of the light falling downwards and casts a finely striped shadow on the walls. The effect reads best when the pendant hangs low enough for the fringe to sit at eye level — over a table or a kitchen island. Five diameters, one pattern The shade is made in five diameters: 20, 25, 35, 45 and 50 cm, with the shade height growing alongside, from 15 to 27 cm. The smaller sizes work in a row of two or three over a worktop; the largest works as a single point over a table or in a tall hallway. The size is chosen at the time of ordering. What comes in the box Every lamp is supplied with an E27 lampholder, a 150 cm cord and a 10 × 3 cm ceiling rose — the fitting is complete and ready to wire, with no suspension kit to buy separately. No bulb is included; any E27 lamp fits. The rating is IP20, so the fitting is for dry interiors only — fabric and fringing do not tolerate damp. Made to order Las Plumas sews each piece by hand, so the lead time is around 21 days. That has two consequences: it is not a lamp to buy for tomorrow, but also no two pieces are identical — the way the marbled pattern falls on the velvet comes out differently each time.
