The SLV RUSTY CONE 70 is a garden bollard light 70 cm tall and 15 cm across, throwing its light straight down. Its whole appeal rests on the one thing lighting normally avoids: rust. Rust that protects rather than destroys The body is made of FeCSi steel put through a controlled chemical treatment. This grows an even layer of rust which — unlike accidental corrosion — seals the surface and protects the material underneath from further oxidation. It is the same principle as the weathering steel used in architecture. Two practical consequences follow: the bollard needs no painting and no coating maintenance, and every piece looks slightly different, because the pattern of the patina never repeats exactly. Worth remembering when siting it: in the first weeks a rusted surface can leave marks on pale stone or concrete after rain. On a lawn, in gravel or in a border that does not matter — on a white terrace it might. Light directed downwards The fitting lights directly beneath itself rather than sideways, so it illuminates the surface and not the eyes of anyone walking past. The diffuser is polycarbonate. The socket is E27 with a maximum of 11 W — SLV specified a TC-DSE compact fluorescent, but the limit applies to any E27 source, so a modern LED bulb of that rating works just as well. This is lighting that marks a path or a drive, not lighting that fills a garden. Installation and resistance Power comes from the 230 V ~50 Hz mains. SLV offers an optional earth spike for setting the bollard into the ground and a connection box that sits inside the body, keeping the cable joint hidden and protected. The fitting is protection class II, so it needs no protective earth conductor. IP54 means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction — ample for a bollard beside a path, but this is not an enclosure rated for flooding or for pressurised jets. The IK02 impact rating is low: this is a decorative piece, not a vandal-resistant one, so it is better not to place it where a mower will clip it.
