The s.luce Hive is a wall light shaped as a hexagonal plate 55 cm across, covered in gold leaf with an uneven, mottled texture. The plate sits on a base with a built-in LED ring and stands 4.4 cm off the wall, so the light leaves through the gap all around and settles on the wall instead of shining forward. How big it is and how it lights the wall The hexagon measures 55 × 55 cm and projects 4.4 cm from the wall. At that depth the fitting does not get in the way in a passage and fits where a shade sticking out from the wall would be too much. It lights indirectly only: a soft halo forms around the plate while the plate itself stays dark. That kind of light lifts the wall and the surroundings by reflection rather than aiming a beam anywhere, so reading in an armchair still needs a second lamp. How much light it gives The built-in LEDs deliver 2300 lm at 29 W. 3000 K is a warm white close to a traditional incandescent bulb, and colour rendering above Ra 80 is enough for general lighting. The manufacturer states 30,000 hours of life and 20,000 switching cycles. The light source cannot be replaced — the LED is fixed inside the base. Dimming is possible but needs a leading- or trailing-edge dimmer; a plain wall switch will not do it. Wiring and mounting The fitting is wired permanently to the 230 V cable in the wall. Protection class I means the box has to carry an earth conductor. The manufacturer also offers a version with a cable to a socket, but that cable is a separate accessory and is not included. A concealed cable pass-through in the base lets several Hive fittings run from one outlet and link into an arrangement on the wall. Spacers for mounting the plates at different depths are sold separately by the manufacturer. The form is modern: one geometric plate with no ornament and no visible fixing, and the gold leaf gives a matt, uneven sheen rather than a smooth metallic surface.Show more
