Cintra is a pendant made of five transparent acrylic globes, each 11 cm across and 9.8 cm tall. The globe surface is faceted — covered in a fine diamond grid — and the diode sits in a gold ring at the bottom of each shade. The globes hang on thin cables from a round steel ceiling plate in matt brass, 32 cm across. How much room it takes and how high it hangs The ceiling plate is 32 cm across and 4.1 cm deep, so a single disc is screwed to the ceiling instead of five separate fixings. The whole fitting weighs 5.1 kg and all of that load goes through that one point — in a plasterboard ceiling it has to be anchored to the structure behind. Hanging height is set after installation, anywhere between 50 and 150 cm. The cables are shortened to different lengths so the globes form a cascade. Over a 75 cm dining table the lowest globe is usually set 70–80 cm above the top, so it does not block the faces of people sitting opposite. How much light five globes give Each globe holds a built-in LED module of 4.7 W and 290 lm, which comes to 23.5 W and 1450 lm together. That is close to two of the old 60 W bulbs, spread over five points instead of one. 2700 K is a warm, slightly yellow light like that of a traditional bulb, and colour rendering of Ra 85 is enough for a living or dining room. The beam angle is 360°, so each globe lights all round rather than only downward. The manufacturer states a life of 30,000 hours; the light sources are built in permanently and cannot be replaced. Dimming and wiring The driver comes with the fitting along with the light sources, so nothing has to be bought to get it running. The diodes are dimmable, but the fitting itself is operated by an ordinary switch — controlling brightness needs a dimmer, which is not included. It runs on 230 V and belongs to protection class I, which requires an earth conductor. It is intended for dry interiors only, and the manufacturer covers it with a three-year warranty.Show more
