Longshore 101691 is a pendant with a drum shade 35 cm across, woven from natural seagrass. The fibres run vertically, side by side, in an undyed straw tone. The metalwork and the cable are finished in matt black, and the shade is left open at the bottom. What height it hangs at The drop adjusts between 35.5 and 120 cm, so the same pendant sits either tight under a low ceiling or well down over a worktop. Over a table the drop is usually shortened so the lower edge of the shade lands 70-80 cm above the surface. At 35 cm the shade is narrower than the fittings normally hung over a large table — it works better over a narrow top, over a bedside table, or as one of several hung in a row. Which bulb to buy The pendant has one light point with an E27 socket and takes a bulb of up to 10 W. No bulb is included. Because the shade is open at the bottom, the bulb is visible to anyone sitting under the light, so how the glass looks matters here. You pick the light colour with the bulb: 2700 K is warm, slightly yellow light that brings out the natural tone of the weave, 4000 K is neutral. The fitting is dimmable, but that needs a bulb marked as dimmable and a dimmer. Texture and rooms Woven seagrass gives a texture a smooth shade does not have — the vertical fibres read close up and against the light. The natural tone is set against the matt black of the metal and the cable, so the fitting is neither uniformly light nor uniformly dark.
