The PRO 3Y COB LED strip is a flexible 10 mm band in which a COB layer — Chip on Board — works in place of individual diodes. The maker states 840 LED points per metre, 15 W/m and 720 lm per metre, running on 24 V direct current. COB means a continuous line instead of a row of dots On a conventional SMD strip the separate diodes and the gaps between them are visible — in a profile without a deep diffuser that puts a row of dots on the wall. COB technology covers the carrier densely with LED structures and floods them with a shared phosphor, so the line of light stays even in a shallow profile. That is the practical reason to choose COB: in low aluminium profiles and where the strip sits close to the eye — under a cabinet, in a niche, along a mirror — the dots of an ordinary strip show, and here they do not. COB also spreads light over a wider angle. How much light, and how efficiently 720 lm per metre at 15 W works out at about 90 lm/W. For scale, a five-metre run gives 3600 lm — as much as a strong ceiling fitting, only spread along a line, so the light is soft and casts no hard shadow from a single source. The strip lights in RGB, driven by an external controller: this is decorative, atmospheric light rather than usable white. Declared life is 26,200 hours. Cutting, supply and mounting The strip cuts every 50 mm, at the points marked on the carrier. That sets how precisely it can be fitted: a run can be shortened to within 5 cm, no finer. Running it takes a 24 V DC supply and an RGB controller, both bought separately. At 15 W/m a five-metre run draws 75 W, so the supply is chosen with headroom. An IP20 rating places the strip in dry interiors — under kitchen cabinets, in the kitchen and in a wardrobe. The 3Y series The maker gives the IP20 version of the 3Y series a five-year warranty and winds it on five-metre reels.
