The PRO 3Y LED strip is a flexible tape carrying 64 2835 SMD diodes per metre, run on 24 V. The reel holds 5 m and 320 diodes, and the board itself is 10 mm wide. The diodes emit cool white light at 6500 K. How much light one metre gives Each metre puts out 734 lm while drawing 6.5 W, so the full five-metre reel comes to roughly 3670 lm. For comparison, an old 60 W incandescent bulb gave about 800 lm, which means a metre and a half of this tape replaces one of them, and the whole reel can light a worktop along its entire length. 6500 K is cool light with a clearly bluish cast and no warm note. Colour rendering is Ra 80, so colours are readable but not as faithful as at Ra 90 — worth weighing up at a make-up mirror. What you have to buy alongside The strip runs on 24 V, so mains operation needs a separate 24 V driver, which is not supplied. Five metres draw 32.5 W, and the manufacturer recommends about 10% headroom, so a driver from roughly 36 W upwards. At 24 V the voltage drop over a longer run is smaller than on a 12 V installation, and the supply wires can have a smaller cross-section, which makes them easier to hide inside a profile or behind a trim. Cutting, mounting and where it belongs The tape is cut every 125 mm at the marks printed on the board, so a five-metre reel yields at most 40 sections and that step decides the lengths you can make. The underside comes pre-applied with Blue Tape mounting adhesive, so a flat, degreased surface needs no extra glue. IP20 means no protection against moisture: this strip is for dry interiors — under kitchen cabinets, in a wardrobe, over a desk and in office recesses. It is not intended for a bathroom, for outdoors, or directly above a sink. At 64 diodes per metre the individual points only merge into a line behind the cover of an aluminium profile; stuck up bare, the tape reads as a row of dots.Show more
