LUMINES Y is an aluminium profile for LED strips with a 17 × 18 mm cross-section, cut to a 2.02 m length. The raw finish means aluminium with no anodising and no lacquer, in the natural silvery colour of the metal. The manufacturer intends it for surface mounting in furniture and for suspended installations. How big the profile is and where it goes The 17 × 18 mm cross-section is the figure to compare with the place the profile is meant to sit: the carcass panel of a cabinet, the edge of a worktop or a recess in built-in furniture. One piece measures 2.02 m, and the manufacturer does not provide connectors for joining pieces end to end, so a longer light line is built from separate sections butted together. The profile is fixed with double-sided tape, screwed down with a mounting clip or hung on suspension wires. Light leaves perpendicular to the mounting surface, that is in one direction: the fitting lights the surface in front of it rather than the whole room. The manufacturer names worktop and column lighting, and use in domestic and office rooms. What is in the box and what has to be bought separately The box holds the profile alone. The LED strip, the driver, the BASIC cover and the end caps are bought separately. Without a cover the individual diodes stay visible; a milky cover diffuses them into one continuous line of light. The driver sits outside the profile, so room for it in the furniture or in an installation box has to be planned from the start. How powerful a strip the profile will carry The manufacturer states the maximum LED power the profile will dissipate as heat: 24.0 W at a profile temperature of 55 °C and 31.5 W at 65 °C. That is the limit for the whole piece, so the strip's power over two metres is worth comparing with it before buying. The separately sold Y M1 mounting profile changes the height of the strip inside the channel, and with it the angle at which the light spreads.Show more
