Alford Place is a large outdoor wall lantern: a body of aluminium in matte Museum Black that tapers towards the bottom, glazed on four sides with flat clear glass and capped by a pyramid roof. The lantern hangs from a curved decorative arm bolted to the wall, and inside, on a central stem, sit three candle holders. Dimensions and wall mounting The fitting is 537 mm high, 305 mm wide and stands 344 mm out from the wall. That last figure is the one that matters beside a door or in a narrow passage — compare it with the width of the space people walk through there. The lantern weighs 4.53 kg, so the fixing has to reach masonry or a load-bearing structure rather than cladding alone. The mounting height cannot be adjusted: the arm is a fixed length. The fitting is wired directly to a 220–240 V supply and has no plug, and its Class I rating means a protective earth has to be present in the back box. Lamps and dimming Three lamps with an E14 base go into the lantern. The manufacturer states a maximum of 40 W per lamp — that is the ceiling for the bulb rather than the fitting's own consumption, and it applies to each of the three holders separately. Bulbs are not included and there is no integrated LED here, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself and simply replace a lamp when it fails. The clear glass does not diffuse the light, so the filament is visible through it — candle holders are usually paired with flame-shaped lamps for that reason. The fitting can be dimmed, but that requires dimmable lamps and a dimmer; the lantern itself has no brightness control. Resistance to the weather The manufacturer intends Alford Place for exterior use only and states IP44, meaning protection against splashing water from any direction. That is the right level for a building wall exposed to rain; it does not cover jets of water or immersion. The body is aluminium and the panes are glass. To that combination the manufacturer adds a three-year anti-corrosion guarantee — on a fitting that stays outdoors all year it is usually corrosion of the finish, not an electrical fault, that shows up first.
