DOUBLE is a flat cover (aperture) for aluminium LED profiles from LUMINES. This variant, article 11-2077-20, is the black version in PMMA, 2 metres long. A black cover — why you would use one A black cover looks at first glance like a contradiction in a lighting product. Its purpose is very specific: when the fitting is switched off, the LED strip and the whole inside of the profile are completely invisible. The profile then reads as a single dark line in the ceiling, wall or furniture — without the milky-white band that stands out against a dark finish during the day. It is the typical choice for dark interiors: black suspended ceilings, anthracite joinery, kitchens with graphite fronts, and commercial spaces where visual discipline matters. Once the light is on, the cover transmits it while remaining dark itself — an effect far more dramatic than with a milky cover. 23% transmittance — a number to design around The LUMINES datasheet gives the DOUBLE cover in black PMMA a light transmittance of 23%. That means more than three quarters of the strip's output is held back. For comparison, in the same DOUBLE shape: the transparent version transmits 89%, frosted 69% and milky 42%. The practical conclusion is simple and belongs at the design stage: to achieve the same lit effect as under a milky cover you need a strip with roughly twice the output, and against a transparent cover nearly four times. A black cover therefore belongs where the look of the line matters rather than the maximum quantity of light: decorative lighting, contour lighting, emphasising an edge — not the main light source in a room. PMMA — and what it changes The cover is made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), i.e. acrylic glass. LUMINES offers the same DOUBLE shape in polycarbonate (PC) as well, and the two materials are not interchangeable without consequence: PMMA has higher clarity and better resistance to yellowing under UV, is stiffer and holds its shape better over a long run. Material operating range: −20 °C to +70 °C. PC is more impact resistant (harder to crack) and takes higher temperatures, but yellows more readily over time. For interior work where the cover is not exposed to knocks, PMMA is the natural choice. Which profiles it fits The DOUBLE cover is designed for a wide group of LUMINES profiles. The manufacturer lists compatibility with, among others: SILEDA, inSILEDA, DILEDA, inDILEDA, UNICO, DOPIO, DULIO, TALIA, inTALIA, ZATI, SUBLI, LOGI, CONVA, TOPO, PERO, VEDA, DUAL, DUO, FIXO, MOTTA, and also HIRO and PLATO. It is worth confirming the fit against your specific profile model before ordering — the snap-in geometry is shared across this family, but the profile range is broad. Length and variants The same black PMMA DOUBLE cover comes in three lengths: 1 m — 11-2077-10 2 m — 11-2077-20 3 m — 11-2077-30 Two metres is a length that still ships conveniently by courier while limiting the number of joints on a longer run. The cover cuts cleanly — with a fine-toothed hacksaw or a scoring knife, always on the side that will not be visible.
