An aeroplane with a 42-centimetre wingspan This is a big fitting. The fuselage is 45 cm long, the wings span 42 cm, and the whole thing hangs 75 cm below the ceiling. In a child's room it is therefore not a detail but the element the rest of the decoration arranges itself around — and that is exactly how the hanging position should be planned. Over the bed is out: at this size the light belongs above clear floor — the middle of the room, over the play rug, or in the reading corner with the armchair. With a low ceiling it is worth shortening the drop at installation. The propeller and the landing gear move The manufacturer states it outright, and it is the most important detail of the whole design: the propeller and the landing gear are movable. For a child the light then stops being a picture on the ceiling and becomes an object that does something — which is the difference between decoration and a thing you are fond of. The colourway supports that: the fuselage is painted white, the wings and remaining parts black. The contrast lifts the aeroplane's silhouette off the ceiling even with the light off, when the fitting is simply an object in the room. Solid pine, and paints you could put in your mouth The light is made entirely of solid pine wood — not plywood, not board. That has two practical consequences: the structure is rigid and survives years of use, and the surface keeps a tangible wood grain rather than a smooth veneer. The coating consists of natural water-based paints which, according to the manufacturer, are certified and entirely safe for children and for the environment. On a light destined for a young child's room that matters more than any photometric figure: it is the one piece of the room's furnishing a child can reach by standing on the bed. You choose the bulb — and GLOBE is worth it The socket is E27 rated to 60 W, and a bulb is not included. LED is fine and makes extra sense in a wooden fitting: LED barely gets warm, and wood does not take kindly to concentrated heat. The manufacturer specifically recommends a GLOBE bulb — spherical, in an opal finish. The reason is practical rather than decorative: in this design the lamp stays exposed and visible from below, and a large opal envelope diffuses the light instead of throwing a hard point into the eyes of a child lying down. Warm or neutral white suits a room where somebody falls asleep. The fitting runs on 230 V, has one light point and carries IP20 — dry interiors only. Hellux covers it with a two-year warranty.
