V-TAC VT-1161 is a round recessed ground light, listed by the manufacturer as an under ground light. All that stays visible is the white 60 mm cap with two side cut-outs through which the light escapes. The body is black, made of die-cast aluminium and polycarbonate, with two connection leads coming out of its base. How much room it needs The fitting is 93 mm long and calls for a 43 mm mounting hole — those are the only two figures the planning needs, because the rest of the body disappears below the surface. The 60 mm cap sits over the hole flush with the paving, so nothing stands proud of block paving or decking boards. The whole fitting weighs 120 g. The manufacturer intends it for gardens, lawns, patios, driveways and the area around steps. How much light it gives, and where The SMD diode draws 1 W and delivers 50 lm. That is marker brightness, not illumination — the old 60 W bulb produced around 800 lm, sixteen times as much. Fittings like this go in runs, to draw the line of a path or the edge of a step, not to light a surface. 6400 K is a cold white with a clear blue cast, which contrasts with the warm light of fittings near the house and keeps the run legible after dark. The light leaves at 180° through the two side cut-outs, so it travels just above the surface and sideways rather than upwards. Colour rendering is above Ra 80. The diode is fixed in place and is not swapped out like a bulb. Supply and operating conditions The fitting runs on 12 V DC, so the installation needs a 12 V DC power supply — it is not wired straight to 230 V mains. One pack holds one fitting. IP67 means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion, the level meant for building into a surface where water stands after rain. The manufacturer gives an operating range of -20 to +45 °C, 20,000 hours of diode life and more than 15,000 switching cycles, with instant start in 0.001 seconds.
