Berta is a children's table lamp 50 cm tall: a turned wooden base painted white and a cylindrical shade 25 cm across, patterned with grey stars. It holds one light point, and the power cord leaves the base at the bottom. How much room it takes on a surface The lamp fits inside a 25 × 25 cm square and stands 50 cm high — compare both figures with the depth of the bedside table or desk it is meant to sit on. The shade is wider than the foot, so leave a few centimetres of clearance against a wall. The light it gives The fitting takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W, running on 230 V. Colour and brightness are therefore chosen together with the bulb: a children's room usually gets 2700–3000 K, warm light with a slightly yellow cast, and roughly 800 lm matches the old 60 W incandescent. The cylindrical shade is open top and bottom, so it throws light down onto the surface below while also lifting the ceiling. What it is made of The stem is turned from wood and painted white; the manufacturer also lists metal and plastic in the construction. The grey stars run all the way around the shade, so the pattern looks the same from every side and the lamp does not have to be turned to face the room. Where it belongs The manufacturer intends Berta for a children's room. White, pale wood and a small repeating motif make a Scandinavian combination, and the plain cylindrical shade does not commit the room to a particular theme.Show more
