Alford Place is a complete garden lamp post — a slender column topped with four glass lanterns, 250 cm tall overall. The design comes from Hinkley and is distributed in Europe by Quintiesse; both names refer to the same product. Silhouette and finish Column and body are aluminium painted in the house shade Museum Black, a deep matt black with no gloss. The four shades are clear glass, so the light spreads in every direction instead of being thrown only downwards. The head measures 305 mm across: at 250 cm tall that gives a strongly vertical lantern outline which stays narrow and fits beside a slim path or along the edge of a driveway. Four E14 sockets — lamps bought separately Inside are four E14 sockets rated at a maximum of 40 W each. That is the ceiling per lamp, not the wattage of the whole lantern. The manufacturer does not supply bulbs, so add a set of four to your order — otherwise the lantern will not light once it is installed. The fitting itself contains no electronics that block dimming: choose dimmable lamps and it will work on a dimmer. Installation and weather resistance The lantern is for outdoor use only and carries an IP44 rating — protection against splashing water from any direction and against solid objects above 1 mm. It runs on 220-240 V mains and is hard-wired; there is no plug, and Class I construction requires an earth conductor, so leave the installation to a qualified electrician. The height is fixed and cannot be adjusted, which makes it worth settling the position before the foundation is poured.
