MANEN S is a pendant lamp with a spherical opal glass shade 14 cm across. The sphere hangs from a black braided cable that runs into a black metal cap held by a clamping screw. The lamp belongs to the MANEN collection, where the same sphere is also made in larger sizes.How big it is and where to hang it The manufacturer gives a height of 96 cm, which covers the sphere and the cable above it — that is how far the lamp drops below the ceiling. Subtract it from the height of your own room to see where the bottom edge of the shade will sit; over a dining table it should end 70–80 cm above the top. At 14 cm the shade is much smaller than the surface a lamp is usually hung over, so a single unit is used as a spot — above a kitchen island, beside an armchair or over a bar. Over a longer surface several of these spheres are hung side by side, and the MANEN collection includes larger sizes to combine with them.How much light it gives The fitting takes one E14 lamp of up to 60 W. No bulb is supplied, so you choose colour and brightness yourself. Opal glass spreads the light over the whole surface of the sphere, so the filament stays out of sight and the lamp glows evenly sideways and upwards as well, not only downwards as an opaque shade does.Finish The shade is glass; the cap and the cable clamp are black metal, and the cable itself is black braided. The white sphere against the black suspension is the only colour accent here: the shape stays smooth, without ornament and without visible joins. The plain form and the absence of decoration place the lamp in modern, minimalist styling.
