TERCERO is a miniature recessed downlight from Luces Exclusivas, just 6.2 cm across with a 6.1 cm build-in depth. The black aluminium casting with its finned heatsink hides in the ceiling, and from below all you see is a dark ring with a small, deeply set light aperture. A deeply set diode means less glare The whole construction of this fitting serves one aim: not seeing the source. The diode sits high up in a black barrel, so looking at the ceiling from a normal angle you see no bright point, only a dark opening — and the light only appears where it lands. This is the language of architectural lighting: the ceiling stays visually calm and the eye follows the lit object rather than the fitting. 542 lumens from 9 W The built-in LED module draws 9 W and returns 542 lm in warm 3000 K. Efficacy of about 60 lm/W is lower than a flat downlight, and that is the direct price of this construction — the deep barrel and narrow aperture hold some of the flux back. In exchange you get focused, contrasty light, good for bringing out a wall, a picture or a worktop, and weaker as general lighting. At that output one fitting lights a point rather than a room — TERCERO is designed in rows or grids. IP42 and installation IP42 is more than the usual IP20: the fitting is protected against solid bodies over 1 mm and against water dripping vertically at up to 15° from vertical. In practice that allows it into a bathroom ceiling outside the shower zones, or into a covered porch. The fitting is held in the cut-out by spring clips; the light source is permanently integrated and not replaceable. Supply is 230 V.
