The VT-1187 is a garden bollard from V-TAC, 100 cm tall, topped by a pivoting head that emits from both of its ends at once. One head, two directions A cylindrical spot open at both ends is mounted on a joint at the top of the slim tube. Set at an angle, it throws one beam up and back and the other down and forward – along one axis, in opposite directions. The manufacturer calls this a 2 Way Spot arrangement and quotes two 2.6 W modules. The joint lets the head turn, so the aim is set after the post is installed: once towards the path, once towards the bed. Light to guide by, not to flood with 390 lm from 4 W is about as bright as a 35 W halogen – deliberately modest. The bollard is there to draw the route: mark the edge of a drive, lead along a path, pick out an entrance. Lighting a whole terrace takes several of them at 2–3 m spacing, or a larger fitting. The narrow 90° angle means the light falls as a defined beam rather than scattering in all directions – the neighbours will not see a glow. Neutral colour and good efficacy 4000 K is neutral white – cooler than warm indoor light, legible and orderly, the usual choice for outdoor and driveway lighting. Colour rendering above CRI 80 is enough to stop greenery looking grey. An efficacy of 100 lm/W and energy class F are typical for a small fitting with a cast aluminium body, where robustness matters more than a record efficiency figure. IP44 – what that means in a garden IP44 protects against solid objects above 1 mm and against splashing water from any direction. That covers rain, snow and fog. It does not mean resistance to a hose jet or to submersion – do not place the bollard where water collects, and do not clean it with a pressure washer. The operating range is −20 to +45 °C, so a hard winter is no problem. Construction and installation The body is aluminium with glass lenses, finished in white. At the foot the post has a flanged base with holes – it is bolted to a firm surface: paving, a concrete kerb or a pad foundation. The 230 V supply cable enters from underneath. The LED is permanently built in (there is no bulb to change); rated life is 20,000 hours, about 18 years at three hours a night. The fitting is not dimmable. Warranty: 2 years.
