A glass tube in copper SANSSOUCI I is a slim cylinder of copper-tinted glass, hung on a thin cable beneath a chrome ceiling canopy. The shade has a mirror-bright surface — switched off it reflects the room like metal; switched on it turns partly translucent and the outline of the lamp shows through. That is the manufacturer's intended effect rather than a flaw: this glass is not a matt diffuser and does not hide the bulb completely. Size: a small fitting meant for groups The shade is only 9 cm across and 23 cm tall, and the whole fitting weighs 580 grams. It will not light a room on its own — a single SANSSOUCI I is a point of light and works best in company: three or five in a row over a kitchen island or bar top, staggered at different heights above a table, or one on each side of a bed in place of table lamps. Suspension and adjustment The cable is 100 cm long, enough to set the shade at the usual height above a worktop (typically 60–80 cm above a table or island) and take up the rest at installation. Canopy and stem are chrome, so the fitting sits comfortably alongside stainless taps and handles. Light source: E27, 15 W maximum The lampholder is a threaded E27 running at 230 V, but the power limit is 15 W and applies to LED lamps — an old 60 W halogen or incandescent must not go in here, because the shade is closed glass of small diameter and cannot shed that heat. The bulb is not included, so the colour temperature is yours to choose: warm white at 2700–3000 K suits copper glass best and reinforces its warm tone. The fitting is dimmable provided the lamp fitted is dimmable too and a suitable dimmer is wired in. Cleaning A mirrored surface shows dust and fingerprints more plainly than matt glass. A dry microfibre cloth is enough; for greasy film in a kitchen, a soft cloth with a little glass cleaner — always on a cool fitting and never with abrasives, which dull the coating.
