The medium supports the growth of undemanding and moderately demanding microorganisms. The soy casein peptone medium formulation contains a combination of casein and soy peptones, providing organic nitrogen, particularly amino acids and longer-chain peptides. Osmotic balance is maintained by sodium chloride, and the medium also contains pyruvate to adequately inactivate any hydrogen peroxide residues remaining from the decontamination of the isolators.
