Chapel Hill is an outdoor half wall lantern: its flat back sits against the wall, with clear glass panes at the front and sides. The aluminium body is finished in matt Museum Black and topped by a steep, curved roof with a ball finial. It was designed by the American brand Hinkley after the lanterns of old carriage houses and is distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Size and where to mount it The lantern is 39.4 cm tall and 21.6 cm wide and projects only 15.2 cm from the wall. That shallow projection matters in a narrow passage and beside doors that open outwards – the fitting does not reach into the walkway the way a full lantern on a bracket does. Compare the width with the gap between the door frame and a downpipe or window. The IP44 rating protects it against water splashing from any direction, and the manufacturer lists it for exterior use – beside the front door, on a porch and on the facade of a house.
