Maris is a wall light in which the shade material takes all the attention. The gently curved panel, 17 × 10.2 cm, is made of overlapping plates of capiz shell — the translucent nacre of the windowpane oyster, used across South-East Asia in place of glass for centuries. Every plate differs in thickness and pattern, so the panel does not glow evenly when lit: you see warm, honey-coloured brightenings and darker edges, like a piece of wax held up to the light.
