TRIVET is a children's table lamp from the Polish brand Hellux – a natural birch tripod 54 cm tall, topped with a drum shade printed with a row of teddy bears on a white ground of blue dots. Oiled birch, not lacquered The three legs are made of solid birch finished with natural oil, not opaque paint. The difference is felt in the hand and visible in the grain – oil soaks into the wood rather than forming a film on it, so the surface stays warm and matt rather than plastic. In a child's room that carries one more meaning: the manufacturer states the lamps hold the safety certificates required for children's products, and that the paints used are water-based. A tripod that unfolds The base is formed by three folding legs. That is not only a shape – an unfolded tripod rests on three points, and three points always meet the surface, even when a desk or cabinet top is not perfectly level. The lamp stands steady where a four-legged base would rock. The teddy bear shade – and what it does to the light The drum shade is printed with a row of bears in brown and blue tones on a white ground of fine dots. Beyond decoration it does optical work: a closed cylinder sends light down and up, while the sides pass it through softened. So the lamp lights a desk or a book but does not glare into the eyes of a child lying in bed, and does not over-brighten the whole room – exactly what a bedside lamp is asked to do. An inline cord switch The lamp has a switch on the cord, within reach. On a bedside lamp that is the difference between groping under the shade in the dark and one movement of a finger – and for a child it means being able to turn the light on and off unaided, without getting up. An E27 socket – free choice of lamp The E27 holder takes a bulb of up to 60 W. That figure is the ceiling for the source, not the lamp's own power. In practice it means complete freedom: a 6–9 W E27 diode now gives what a 60 W incandescent used to, and for a child's room warm white (2700–3000 K) is the natural pick, since it does not get in the way of falling asleep.
