s.luce Orb is a pendant light with a glass sphere 30 cm across in a brown glass tone. The sphere hangs from three metal rods that come down from a black canopy, and the whole fitting drops on a black 5-metre suspension. Where to hang it Five metres of suspension is far more than a room of ordinary height needs — the manufacturer intends this version for tall interiors: over a stairwell, in an entrance hall, above a mezzanine, and in spaces open across two floors. A mechanism inside the canopy lets you correct the drop, and the suspension itself can be shortened to the height you need. At 30 cm the sphere is small for a fitting meant for a tall space, which is why Orb is often hung several at a time, side by side at different heights. The fitting weighs 0.42 kg. It is built to protection class I, so the wiring must include an earth conductor. Choosing a bulb The fitting takes one E27 bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is supplied, so you pick the colour and brightness yourself — in a stairwell or hall, 2700–3000 K warm light usually works best. More important than wattage is whether the bulb fits inside the sphere: on the 20 and 30 cm versions the opening accepts sources up to 8.5 cm in diameter. That rules out some of the larger decorative bulbs but leaves room for a standard A60 and most candle shapes. The glass is see-through, so the shape of the filament or module shows through and is what draws the light. Orb can be dimmed, but it has no electronics of its own — you need a bulb described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit. Build and other sizes The sphere is glass; the suspension and canopy are metal. The IP20 rating restricts it to dry rooms.
