RUSTY CONE 40 is a 40 cm garden bollard built from rust-finished FeCSi steel. The cylindrical body, 15 cm across, is closed at the top by an openwork pointed-arch cage holding a cream polycarbonate diffuser. The fitting stands on a round flange 20 cm in diameter and weighs 11.3 kg. How it is set down The base is 20 cm across and carries screw holes, so the bollard is bolted to a finished surface — paving, a slab, a concrete footing. For a lawn or a bed SLV provides a separate 50 cm earth spike (art. 229423, galvanised steel), shared between RUSTY CONE 40 and 70. 11.3 kg on a 40 cm fitting is a lot for the size — it stands steady on its own weight. The supply cable comes up through the base; for a safe joint inside the body SLV offers a three-pin IP68 connection box (art. 228730), again as a separate article. Where the rust comes from The FeCSi steel is chemically treated so that a controlled layer of rust forms on the surface. That layer closes off the metal underneath and slows further corrosion, so the rusted look here is a finish rather than a sign of damage. Because the rust grows naturally, the pattern and shade of the surface differ from piece to piece and keep changing over time. Buy two and you will not get two identical ones. Lamp and supply Inside is an E27 lampholder for one lamp of up to 11 W. No lamp is included — SLV recommends its own T38 E27, an 8 W 3000 K LED with a colour rendering index of CRI 90 (art. 1005289), or its 4000 K counterpart (art. 1005290). The bollard connects straight to 220–240 V ~50/60 Hz mains, with no driver. It is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor. The light it gives and where it stands The light distribution is asymmetric, and the flux leaves both directly through the cage slots and by reflection off the inside of the cage — this is a fitting for marking a path and the edge of a terrace, not for lighting a whole garden. IP54 lets it stand in the open with no shelter over it. The impact resistance class IK02 is low, so the housing takes only light knocks.
