The s.luce Orb is a pendant lamp built around a single sphere of white, mouth-blown glass 50 cm across. The globe rests on three metal rods and hangs from a black, five-metre suspension. Every shade is made by hand, so small variations in the glass belong to the character of the series. How high it hangs The suspension is 500 cm long as delivered. That length is meant for rooms taller than a single storey — stairwells, entrance halls and spaces with a gallery — where an ordinary pendant stops several metres above head height. The cable can be shortened to the length you need, and a mechanism inside the ceiling rose lets you correct the drop by a few centimetres after installation, without taking the fitting down. The globe itself measures 50 cm in diameter and the same in height — the largest of the four Orb sizes, which the manufacturer also intends to be combined into arrangements of several spheres. If the lamp is to hang over a table, the lower edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop. Which bulb it takes The globe holds one E27 bulb of up to 40 W; no bulb is supplied. At this shade diameter a second measurement matters: the manufacturer allows bulbs up to 15 cm across, so large decorative vintage bulbs fit as well as standard shapes. The fitting can be dimmed but carries no electronics of its own — you need a bulb described as dimmable and a dimmer. It runs on 230 V and belongs to protection class I, so the ceiling wiring must include an earth conductor. Finish and rooms The shade is white opal glass, which spreads the light across the whole surface of the sphere — the entire globe lights up, not only the area beneath it. The three rods, the ceiling rose and the suspension are black metal, so against a light ceiling it is mainly the globe that shows. The manufacturer intends the fitting for the living room and, beyond that, for tall spaces: galleries, stairwells and entrance areas.
