The *E. coli* tube (S2-EC) is designed for the detection of bacteria of the species *Escherichia coli*. The S2-EC tube contains an enrichment broth featuring a fluorescent indicator. For most applications, the test duration for this tube is 18 hours. The *E. coli* tube relies on MUG, the most commonly used fluorogenic substrate for detecting the glucuronidase activity of *E. coli* organisms. The detection system is equipped with an agar plug, through which optical measurements are performed to monitor the fluorescent shift within the liquid medium.
