MEXICO is a futon — a sofa bed on a solid beech frame, with a mattress in green fabric. Unfolded it gives a full-size sleeping area of 140 × 200 cm. A futon is built differently from an ordinary sofa bed A futon has no sprung mechanism and no steel lattice folded away under the seat. The backrest simply drops level with the seat, forming one flat surface, and the same mattress serves both functions. The consequences are practical: fewer moving parts to fail, no steel frame under your back, and unfolding that one hand can manage. The price is that sleeping on a futon is firmer than on a sprung mattress — for some a benefit to the spine, for others a reason to look elsewhere. The manufacturer notes that assembly is a two-person job; instructions and a basic tool kit are included, but a hammer, pliers or a 10 mm spanner, flat and cross screwdrivers and a driver with an S4 bit will all help.
