JACK SQ is a plaster wall light from the Czech brand Rendl – an 11.5 cm cube, open at the top and the bottom, that throws light onto the wall in two directions. Two beams instead of one The body is closed on four sides and open above and below – the light leaves upwards and downwards, along the wall. Two symmetrical washes appear, picking out the texture of the plaster or paint; the fitting itself stays dark and does not glare. This is a decorative luminaire: it builds atmosphere and rhythm on a wall, but it will not light a whole room. You can paint it Here plaster is the structural material, not just a finish. The light leaves the factory white, but its surface takes ordinary interior wall paint – the same paint that is on the wall. Painted over, the fitting all but disappears and only the light effect remains. That matters on strongly coloured walls, where a white fitting would read as a blot. You choose the lamp The fitting takes a G9 lamp of up to 5 W (LED). The light source is not included – Rendl recommends its G13036 module. That has a practical upside: you pick the colour temperature yourself, and years from now you replace the lamp rather than the fitting. It can be dimmed, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and use a matching dimmer. Where it works The manufacturer points to hallways, living rooms, bedrooms and circulation areas – anywhere the light has room to run up and down an uncluttered wall.
