The Venedig 261 is a classic wall-mounted lantern from NORLYS's Venice range. Its body takes the silhouette of a street lantern of a century ago: a six-sided cage under a pointed roof, finished at the bottom with a turned finial, the whole thing sitting flat against the wall. At 44 cm tall with a projection of only 13 cm it takes up no room beside a narrow doorway or on a stair landing, yet keeps the full, recognisable lantern shape. Materials and durability The base and cage are powder-coated cast aluminium in black RAL 9005. Aluminium does not rust and the powder coat resists UV and salt - the standard NORLYS material set for the Scandinavian climate. In place of glass the panels are clear UV-stabilised polycarbonate: it does not shatter and does not yellow as quickly as ordinary plastic, which matters on a fitting mounted at head height. The cable entry is sealed with an EPDM gland. Sealing and safety The fitting is rated IP54: full protection against settled dust and resistance to splashing water from any direction - the right level for a lantern mounted vertically on a wall, with or without an overhang. It is not intended for cleaning with a pressure jet. Protection class II means no earth conductor is needed; a two-core cable is enough, which simplifies connection in older installations. The operating range of -20 to +45°C covers a northern European winter comfortably. Light source The Venedig 261 has an E27 holder and is sold without a lamp. The manufacturer allows LED lamps up to 9 W and names specific families: Osram LED Parathom Classic E27, Osram ECO PRO Classic and Philips Master LEDbulb Classic. Because the lens is clear and NORLYS classifies this fitting as discovered light - the lamp is visible from outside - a frosted bulb in a classic pear or candle shape is the safer choice. A clear filament lamp plays up the retro character but glares more when looked at directly. Installation The fitting is fixed with two screws through ø4.5 mm holes spaced 90 mm apart. The terminals accept conductors up to 2 x 2.5 mm² and the gland suits round cable of 7 to 10.5 mm diameter. Connection is a job for a qualified electrician. NORLYS notes on the data sheet that condensation inside an outdoor luminaire is a natural phenomenon and not a fault - once the lamp is on and warm, the moisture evaporates. Variants and spares The same model is made in white as 261WH (RAL 9003) and in a corten finish as 261CS; other colours are produced to order against the NORLYS Colors Template swatch book. A separate lampshade service kit, part number 06261002, is available, so damaged panels can be replaced instead of the whole lantern. The fitting ships in a 25.5 x 16 x 45.5 cm carton and weighs 2.1 kg net.
