Cutie is a small terracotta vase wrapped all round in a rattan lattice. The barrel-shaped body tapers towards the base, and flat rattan strips wound horizontally and vertically form a regular grid finished with a pronounced hoop at the rim. The terracotta is left unglazed and deliberately rough, with visible pores and small pits - the raw look BAZAR BIZAR sells under the colour name Concrete Natural. Material and finish The manufacturer lists the material as terracotta with rattan. Terracotta is fired clay, so the vase is heavy for its size - at 22 cm tall it weighs about 1.2 kg and stays put even under a tall bunch of dried grasses. The rattan wrap is not only decorative: it stiffens the wall and protects the rim, which is the part of unglazed ceramic most likely to chip. Both materials are natural, so the shade of the clay and of the rattan varies slightly from piece to piece. Dried and fresh flowers The vase is not watertight - unglazed terracotta lets moisture through and the rattan wrap does not take prolonged contact with water. For dried flowers, pampas grass, eucalyptus stems or a dried arrangement it needs no preparation at all. For cut flowers, use a glass or plastic liner: a narrow jar or a test tube dropped inside takes the water, and only that touches it. The mouth is wide enough for an ordinary jar of up to roughly fifteen centimetres across. Where to put it The manufacturer specifies indoor use only. Rough terracotta and rattan sit well against raw plaster, microcement and wood - in BAZAR BIZAR's own styling the vases stand on the edge of a bath, on a bathroom console and on a low living-room table. Bear in mind that unglazed ceramic can mark pale, absorbent surfaces; a felt or cork pad solves it. Dust the rattan with a dry brush and wipe the terracotta with a barely damp cloth, without detergents.
