ARGON ONTARIO 653 is a square ceiling light 25 cm to a side and only 7 cm deep. The frame is powder-coated steel in a dark grey textured finish (RAL 7015), closed underneath by a flat panel of white opal glass. Two E27 sockets sit entirely inside that 7 cm body — this is a fitting for rooms where nothing may hang from the ceiling. A flat body for low rooms Seven centimetres of depth is the dimension that decides the application: the fitting clears sliding doors, suits a hallway with a dropped ceiling, a utility bathroom or a corridor where a hanging lamp simply has no room. The square 25 x 25 cm outline sits well in geometric interiors and in layouts that repeat several fittings across a ceiling at even spacing. Textured dark grey rather than smooth paint The "struktura" finish is a powder coat with a fine, perceptible texture. In practice it gives two things: a matt, non-reflective surface, and better resistance to small scratches and fingerprints than smooth black or white. The contrast between the dark frame and the white diffuser makes the fitting read as a deliberate element on the ceiling rather than a patch of light. Two E27 sources — and a limit on their size The fitting runs two E27 sockets on 230 V. The manufacturer rates it at 2 x 15 W (max) — up to 15 W per socket — and permits LED sources only; the installation sheet explicitly crosses out incandescent lamps. The critical constraint, though, is dimensional. The instructions give a maximum bulb envelope of 50 mm diameter by 105 mm length. A classic A60 pear (60 mm across) will not fit under the diffuser. You need slimmer sources — an A50 envelope or a G45 golf ball. Worth checking before buying bulbs, since it is the commonest reason a shallow ceiling light will not close. Dimming and installation The instruction sheet marks the fitting as dimmer-compatible, provided the LED bulbs fitted are themselves dimmable. It is protection class I and therefore needs a protective earth conductor. Installation is surface mounted: the frame screws to the ceiling on four plugs, the bulbs go in, and the glass diffuser goes on last. The IP20 rating restricts it to dry rooms. Bulbs are not included. The ONTARIO family ONTARIO is a series built on one shape in three sizes and three colours. The small two-light 25 cm version comes as 652 (white textured), 653 (dark grey textured) and 654 (black textured). Above it sit four-light versions: 350 mm (1578 / 1579 / 1580) and 450 mm (1575 / 1576 / 1577), all at the same 70 mm depth.
