Nordlux Nestor Sensor – a façade wall light with motion and daylight sensors Nestor is a flat rectangular façade fitting measuring 22.1 × 14.7 cm and standing just 8.7 cm off the wall. Danish design in its most literal form: no ornament, matt black RAL 9005, one smooth luminous plane. This is a fitting meant to disappear on the wall by day and switch itself on when someone approaches after dark. Two sensors, not one This is the most important thing to know about the fitting. Nestor has a built-in PIR motion sensor with a range of up to 10 metres and a daylight sensor. The second one is what stops the lamp switching on in the middle of the day when someone walks past — it responds only after dusk. Without a daylight sensor a PIR-only fitting triggers all day, which shows on the bill and shortens diode life. Infrared detection responds to the heat of moving bodies, so it works in complete darkness too. Parallel connection of several fittings Nestor is prepared for parallel connection — several fittings can be tied into one circuit. In practice that means a run of lamps along a long façade, a driveway or a path can be set out without a separate supply for each. The manufacturer lists this among the model's three key features. 8 W, 550 lm, warm white 2700 K The LED module is permanently built in — the source is non-replaceable, so the life of the diode is the life of the fitting. The manufacturer states 25,000 hours. At 8 W the fitting delivers 550 lm in warm white 2700 K with a colour rendering index of Ra 80. A 120° beam angle means a wide spread — Nestor lights a band of wall and the space in front of it rather than a point. The fitting is not dimmable. The energy efficiency class is E. Aluminium, IP44, protection class I The housing is aluminium, the diffuser plastic, all in matt black RAL 9005. IP44 protects against splashing water from any direction — enough for a façade, a porch or a garage wall, but not for places hosed with a water jet. The manufacturer notes that the fitting is not intended for seaside locations, where salt air calls for materials of higher resistance. Nestor is protection class I, so installation requires an earth conductor and belongs to a qualified electrician. The fitting weighs 0.68 kg. Where Nestor works By a front door, at a gate, on a garage wall, along a driveway and a path to the house, beside outdoor steps, on a terrace. The warm 2700 K tone is a deliberate choice here: at a house entrance cold light looks institutional, warm light looks domestic. At 550 lm this is an orientation and welcome fitting rather than one that lights a whole driveway; for that, several units are better, using exactly the parallel-connection capability.
