The Direct Lactic Acid tube (lactic acid) detects contamination by lactic acid microorganisms in food products. When carbon dioxide (CO2) is released by growing lactic acid bacteria, the CO2 diffuses through a membrane layer into a soft agar plug containing a dye indicator. The Soleris® device reads the color change of the dye. The membrane layer also acts as a barrier to protect against interference between the product and the reading grid.
