VALENCIA is a wall light whose whole body is a single alabaster shade: an elongated prism cut to a point top and bottom, bound at mid-height by an angled brass band in a vintage finish. That band carries on into the round backplate against the wall. The design is Alora's, sold in Europe under the Elstead group's Quintiesse label. How big it is and how it is installed The fitting stands 38.1 cm tall and just 9.1 cm wide — a narrow vertical accent that fits a strip of wall between a door and a corner, or a pair either side of a bed. It projects 10.5 cm from the wall, so it stays out of the walking line even in a narrow hallway. The light is wired permanently into a 220–240 V supply; there is no cable and plug. The manufacturer rates it Class I, which means an earth conductor has to be present in the back box. The fitting weighs 1.36 kg. How much light it gives and of what kind Two E27 lamps sit inside, one above the brass band and one below it, so light leaves the stone upward and downward at once. The manufacturer allows 60 W on each lampholder; that is a per-lamp limit, not a total for the whole fitting. No lamps are supplied and there is no integrated LED, so colour and brightness are yours to choose. The fitting has no driver or dimmer of its own: dimming needs lamps described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit. Alabaster, a shade that cannot be repeated The shade is cut from natural alabaster; the hardware is steel. The manufacturer states that the veining and tone of the stone vary from piece to piece and that no two shades look alike — a property of the material, not a fault in one example. Worth bearing in mind when ordering two for one room: they will resemble each other without matching. What kind of room it is meant for In the catalogue the fitting is assigned to the living room, bedroom, dining room, hallway, office and study — places where the job is supplementary light at the wall rather than the main light of the room. The manufacturer specifies interior locations only. The form is minimal: one stone element, one metal binding, no ornament.
